Day three of the nomination filing for the upcoming elections witnessed a flurry of activity across various constituencies in Himachal Pradesh. A total of 12 candidates stepped forward to formalize their candidacy, with notable filings in both parliamentary and assembly constituencies, informed a spokesperson.
In a significant, Vikramaditya Singh, the 34-year-old scion of the esteemed Virbhadra Singh family, declared his candidacy for the Mandi Parliamentary Constituency under the banner of the Indian National Congress. Joining him in the Mandi fray was Sunder Singh Thakur, also representing the Indian National Congress as a covering candidate, marking a strong start for the party in this crucial constituency, he added.
Meanwhile, in Kangra, veteran INC politician Anand Sharma threw his hat into the ring, vying for the parliamentary seat under the Indian National Congress ticket. His entry was matched by Narain Singh Dogra, the candidate from the Himachal Janata Party, adding further intensity to the electoral contest in Kangra, stated the spokesperson.
Shimla witnessed Suresh Kumar’s nomination as an candidate from Rashtriya Dev Bhoomi for the Shimla Parliamentary constituency.
Notably, Hamirpur saw a surge in nominations with candidates from various parties stepping forward. Hem Raj and Rattan Chand Katoch filed their papers representing the Bahujan Samaj Party, while Gopi Chand, Garib Daas Katoch, and Arun Ankesh Syal declared their candidacy under the Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal banner, promising a competitive electoral battle in this constituency.
Additionally, two nominations were filed for assembly constituencies, with Ravi Thakur representing the Bhartiya Janta Party in the 21-Lahaul Spiti AC bye-elections and Rajeev Sharma contesting as an independent candidate from Kutlehar Assembly constituency.
However, despite the spirited activity, no nominations were received from Dharamshala, Sujanpur, Gagret, and Badsar Assembly Constituencies, hinting at potential developments in the days to come.
