Shimla, June 14
A tragic incident unfolded this morning in Mandi, where a young man from Punjab drowned in the Beas River near Bindravani. The accident occurred around 6:30 am.
Despite extensive search efforts by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and a team of divers from Sundarnagar, the youth has not been located.
Reports suggest that the ongoing heatwave has been pushing people to seek relief in water bodies, often leading to risky behavior. Ignoring local warnings, a group of five friends from Punjab, en route to Rohtang, entered the river.
Among them was Jasdeep Singh from Kurali, who slipped and drowned. His friend Akashdeep tried to save him but was rescued from drowning by a migrant laborer.
Eyewitness Tanveer, a migrant laborer, mentioned that the group disregarded several warnings from locals about the dangers of the river.
Authorities are continuing their search for Jasdeep Singh, with no success as of noon today. This incident highlights the risks associated with seeking respite from the heatwave in unsafe waters.
