Right-wing activists booked after ruckus at Lenskart store in Shimla
Shimla, April 23,
A case has been registered against several right-wing activists following a ruckus at a Lenskart showroom in Sanjauli, raising concerns over communal harmony in the area.
According to police, Case No. 23/2026 has been lodged at Sanjauli Police Station under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code after members of Dev Bhoomi Sangharsh Samiti allegedly entered the store without permission and raised religious slogans. The complaint names Madan Thakur, Kalpana Sharma, and 10–15 others.
Shimla District Police Chief Gaurav Singh confirmed the registration of the case and said the matter is being investigated. “We have taken cognisance of the incident and a case has been registered under relevant sections of law. Any attempt to disturb communal harmony or create public disorder will be dealt with strictly,” he stated.

Police sources said the group allegedly shouted provocative slogans targeting a particular community, which reportedly hurt religious sentiments and created tension inside the showroom located near Vishal Megamart.
The incident is believed to be linked to a recent internal directive by the showroom management advising staff not to display religious symbols, including tilak, while on duty.
Authorities have urged the public to maintain peace and refrain from actions that could inflame communal sensitivities. Further investigation is underway to identify all those involved and ascertain the full sequence of events.
