Scenic Kalka Shimla toy train resumes till Solan
Shimla, Sept 20
The Kalka Shimla toy train track, a UNESCO heritage site known for its picturesque journey, has resumed operations today, extending its services up to Solan. Reportedly, the first train to embark on this rejuvenated route departed from Kalka at 0720 hours, carrying approximately 15 passengers eager to experience this iconic ride.
The track had been rendered inoperable since July due to extensive damage caused by multiple heavy rains and landslides, leading to disruptions at multiple locations along the track. At the onset, Northern railway officials had anticipated a more extended downtime for repairs, but to the pleasant surprise of tourists and enthusiasts, the track has been reopened ahead of schedule, at least up to the charming town of Solan. A few days earlier the track was operationalised till Koti Station near Parwanoo, the industrial township, located on the border of Haryana.

In addition to the morning service, two more trains are scheduled for this revitalized route, departing at 1210 hours and 1455 hours respectively. While this development is a positive step towards the full restoration of this cherished heritage, officials encourage the travellers to stay updated on any further developments or potential delays as repair work continues on other sections of the track.
“The Kalka Shimla toy train is gradually chugging its way back to full glory!,” commented a travel operator Nitin.
