Shimla, Aug 4,

A server malfunction on Monday brought Speed Post and Registered Mail services to a standstill at the General Post Office (GPO) in Shimla, leaving hundreds of customers stranded.

Postal officials confirmed that the issue stemmed from a server outage, which made it impossible to generate tickets for time-sensitive services. “We had no option but to suggest ordinary post, as the system for Speed Post and Registered Mail was non-functional,” said a GPO official.

The disruption adds to the woes of residents already facing power cuts, roadblocks, and communication failures due to relentless monsoon rains across Himachal Pradesh.

Many customers, including Abhilasha Thakur, were forced to switch to costlier private courier services. “The post office simply turned me away,” she said.

Officials said they are working to resolve the issue, but no timeline was provided for the restoration of services.
