In the spirit of festivity, Shimla is all set to host the Shimla Sangeet Mahotsav 2024, a three-day cultural extravaganza from October 22 to 24 at the historic Gaiety Theatre, Gothic Hall. Organized by the Department of Language & Culture, Himachal Pradesh, this event promises to be a mesmerizing showcase of India’s classical music and dance traditions.
As the city revels in its festive atmosphere, both locals and visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the soulful melodies of Sarod, the intricate rhythms of Kathak, and the enchanting tunes of Flute. The festival will also highlight classical Vocal and Qawwali performances, ensuring that each day of the Mahotsav brings a unique musical experience.
The event kicks off on October 22 with a Sarod performance by Arnab Chakrabarty, followed by a dazzling Kathak performance by Manjari Chaturvedi, accompanied by Meeta Pandit with a classical Vocal recital.
On October 23, the spotlight will shift to the renowned Pt. Vidyadhar Vyas, who will enthrall audiences with his classical Vocal prowess. He will be followed by Sunanda Sharma, with Pt. Rajendra Prasanna on the *Flute, delivering a melodious combination of voice and instrument.
The festival will conclude on October 24with a performance by Abhay Sopori, a master of the Santoor. The final act of the Mahotsav will be a soulful Qawwali performance by the celebrated duo, Naseer Ahmed Warsi and Nazeer Ahmed Warsi, bringing the festival to a grand and spiritual conclusion.
All performances will begin at 5:30 PM daily at the Gaiety Theatre, Gothic Hall. Admission to the event is free, and all are welcome to attend, informed a departmental official. “This Mahotsav offers an extraordinary opportunity to experience India’s classical heritage during the festive season in Shimla,” they added.
