Sixteen booked as police raids mining mafia on River Beas

After detection of liquor mafia, now is the turn of the Mining mafia in Hamirpur. Following complaints of illegal mining in the Beas river under Police Station Sujanpur area, the district police prepared a team and raided the mighty River Beas during the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday and confiscated five JCV’s and thirteen tippers loaded with mining stones and other material. Sixteen persons were also taken into custody from the spot.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of the SP, Hamirpur in the midnight hours when the mafia was at work. SP, Hamirpur, Dr. Akriti Sharma said today that a case has been registered in police station Sujanpur under Section 379 of the IPC and Section 21 and 22 of the Mining Act. She said that the police were interrogating all who were present in the River at the time of the raid and said that no one would be spared as the Mafia was harming the cause of the environment and they were working without permission. SP said that the police would not allow anyone to create problems for the ecology.
