In the high reaches of Himachal Pradesh, there was a light to moderate spell of snowfall, hailstorm, thunderstorm, and windstorm, disrupting normal life and causing losses to property and infrastructure.
According to the Met Office, Koksar received 19 cm of snowfall, Gondola 1.5 cm, Keylong 8.5 cm, and Kukumseri 2.5 cm. The Atal Tunnel Rohtang North Portal to Darcha is accessible one way via the link road. At Sisu, the road is blocked at Selfie point due to landslides and is also blocked toward Keylong due to landslides. The Darcha to Shinkula road experienced six cm of snowfall, and the road is already closed due to an avalanche at Zanskar. Additionally, due to the mounting snow, the road from Losar to Gramphu is closed.
On Friday evening, a huge Deodar tree uprooted due to a windstorm at the tourist resort of Manali, damaging ten cars. Similarly, six cars in the parking lot of Una were also damaged by the uprooting of a tree yesterday.
The moderate spell of rain and snowfall ended the prolonged dry spell in many places of the state. Bharmour in Chamba received 25 mm of rain, Chamba 25 mm, Tissa and Solan 24 mm, Kukumseri in Lahaul Spiti 19 mm, Rajgarh in Sirmaur 20 mm, Kalpa 20 mm, Renuka or Dadhau 19.4 mm, Reckong Peo 19 mm, Dalhousie 19 mm, Koksar 19 mm, Shimlaro 19 mm, Nadaun 18.5 mm, Wangtoo 18.4 mm, Sangla 17.8 mm, Kufri 16.5 mm, Gondola 16.5 mm, Rohru 15 mm, Keylong six mm, Kandaghat 1.6 mm, Narkanda, and Shimla 13 mm, Mashobra 11.5 mm, Kasauli 11.4 mm, Dharmshala 11.4 mm, Pooh in Kinnaur 11 mm, Saloni 11 mm, and Sarahan 11 mm.
The inclement weather conditions are expected to prolong further, with rain or snow forecasted at few places on April 22 and 23 and scattered places for the next one week. Thunderstorms with lightning are expected at isolated places for the next three days.
