Shimla, Aug 22,
On the call of INDIA block parties, including the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the state Congress staged a dharna today in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office at Strawberry Hill near Kasumpti.
The protest was led by the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Chief, Pratibha Singh, and was also attended by the Member of Assembly, Kuldeep Rathore; Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Sanjay Awasthi; MLA, Mohan Lal Brakta; Himuda Vice President, Yashwant Chhajta; Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor, Surendra Chauhan; Deputy Mayor, Uma Kaushal; and other prominent party leaders, including former MLAs Ram Lal Thakur and Gangaram Musafir, along with 100 other party workers.
Addressing the protest meeting, Ms. Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, known for being an avid speaker, has not uttered a single word on the recent revelations in which SEBI Chairperson was accused of having offshore investments in Gautam Adani’s firms. She claimed that the SEBI chief, who previously worked with the Adani Group, is now financially favoring the conglomerate.
The former MP sought the ousting of the SEBI chief for alleged involvement in the Adani shares scandal. She emphasized that millions of shareholders across the country lost crores of rupees in the scam, making an impartial investigation imperative.
She said that the party has called for an all-India protest and cordoned off the ED offices today, seeking a probe by the JPC to investigate the allegations. State Congress President Pratibha Singh accused the BJP-led central government of manipulating the country’s economy for the benefit of a select few capitalists.
She added that if the Modi government does not act on the demands of opposition parties, a fresh strategy will be planned to intensify the movement on the matter soon.
AICC spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Rathore accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of deliberately destabilizing the nation’s economy. He alleged that opposition leaders are being targeted and put behind bars by the CBI and ED whenever they raise their voices against such economic malpractices.
Party workers also raised strong slogans against Adani and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
