Himachal High Court Appoints One Judge and Two Additional Judges
Shimla, August 27: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has appointed one Judge and two Additional Judges following a notification issued by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, on Thursday.
According to the notification, issued under Articles 217 and 224 of the Constitution, Chirag Bhanu Singh has been appointed a Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. Bhupesh Sharma, currently serving as Registrar General of the High Court, and Yogesh Jaswal, currently serving as District and Sessions Judge, Sirmaur, have been appointed Additional Judges for a period of two years. All three appointments will take effect from the dates on which they assume office.
The appointments follow the Supreme Court Collegium’s approval of their names at its meeting held on June 2.
Singh, born in 1970, holds a law degree from Himachal Pradesh University. He enrolled with the High Court Bar Association, Shimla, in 1994 and practised in civil, criminal, constitutional and service matters before joining the judicial service. He was appointed Additional District and Sessions Judge in 2007 and subsequently held several important positions, including District and Sessions Judge, Legal Remembrancer-cum-Principal Secretary (Law), Registrar (Judicial-I) of the Supreme Court of India, Director of the State Judicial Academy and Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh. Before his elevation, he was serving as District and Sessions Judge, Kangra at Dharamshala.

Sharma joined the Himachal Pradesh Judicial Service in July 1996 and served in various judicial capacities before being elevated to the Higher Judicial Service. He served as District and Sessions Judge in several districts and was appointed Registrar General of the High Court in October 2024.
Jaswal, who joined the judicial service in July 1996, has held various positions in the subordinate and higher judiciary, including District and Sessions Judge in Kinnaur, Chamba and Kangra. He also served as Registrar of the High Court, Director of the Himachal Pradesh Judicial Academy and Presiding Officer of the Labour Court-cum-Industrial Tribunal. He was posted as District and Sessions Judge, Sirmaur at Nahan, in April 2025.
With these appointments, three vacancies in the High Court are being filled from the judicial service quota. Earlier to this Singh had approached the Supreme Court before his selection and subsequently obtained relief from the court.
