Solan/Shimla, May 1,
Timely action by the fire brigade averted a major tragedy at YS Parmar University late last night after a fire broke out in the campus canteen. The incident occurred around 2 am when smoke was seen rising from the canteen building. Passersby and university staff immediately informed the police and fire department, prompting a swift emergency response.
Firefighters reached the spot without delay and began efforts to control the blaze, successfully preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings, including the auditorium located just a few meters away. Their prompt intervention ensured the fire was contained, avoiding what could have been a far more serious situation.
Though property and goods worth nearly Rs 10 lakh were destroyed in the fire, no injuries were reported. The police also arrived promptly and initiated further action. Authorities have appreciated the alertness of the local community and the efficiency of the emergency response teams, which helped prevent a potentially larger disaster on the university campus.
