Shimla/Chamba, Aug 6
Two men were killed after an Alto car plunged about 250 metres into a deep gorge near Healing Nallah on the Lamu-Heeling road in the Holi area of Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district late Wednesday night.
The deceased were identified as Suresh Kumar (48), son of Rangeela Ram, a PWD employee, and Sanjay Kumar (35), son of Sarwan Sharma, a taxi driver, both residents of Lamu village.
Police said the victims were returning home from Healing when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle near the nallah around 11 pm, causing it to fall into the gorge.
Villagers reached the spot first and, along with police, carried out a difficult rescue operation on Thursday morning. The bodies were retrieved using ropes and a human chain due to the steep terrain.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and will be handed over to the families afterwards. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
