Shimla, May 25
Two persons were killed after a vehicle plunged into a gorge near Mehli on the outskirts of Shimla on Sunday. Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and initiated investigation into the accident.
According to a press note issued by the Superintendent of Police, Shimla, the accident occurred around 7 am on May 24 near the sewage treatment plant at Mehli.
A vehicle bearing registration number HP24C-0600 reportedly skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge.
Police Station New Shimla registered a case under Sections 281, 125(a) and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the statement of Bharat Bhushan, a resident of Taradevi in Shimla district.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident allegedly occurred due to rash and negligent driving by the driver, identified as Akhil. Two passengers travelling in the vehicle died on the spot in the mishap.

Soon after receiving information, police and rescue teams rushed to the site and carried out rescue operations. The bodies were later shifted for postmortem examination.
