Shimla, May 6
The town of Una is currently grappling with scorching temperatures, as the mercury soared to a sweltering 40.3 degrees Celsius, marking the highest recorded temperature of the season thus far. This relentless heatwave has engulfed the region, with other areas experiencing varying degrees of warmth. Chamba reached a maximum of 33.3 degrees Celsius, while Dharamshala and Kangra recorded 31.3 and 36 degrees respectively. Keylong offered some respite with a cooler temperature of 16.6 degrees Celsius, contrasting sharply with the warmer readings elsewhere. Bhuntar and Hamirpur experienced temperatures of 32 and 32.2 degrees Celsius respectively, contributing to the widespread discomfort caused by the intense heat. Mandi and Sundernagar witnessed temperatures of 35.0 and 35.4 degrees Celsius respectively, while Neri and Bilaspur endured 39.8 and 39 degrees Celsius, further adding to the oppressive conditions.
However, amidst the scorching heatwave, there is a glimmer of hope in the form of the weather forecast. Dry weather is expected to persist in the coming days, with isolated rainfall predicted in the middle and high hills, offering some relief from the blistering temperatures. Although today and tomorrow are projected to remain dry across all areas, rain is forecasted at isolated places on the 9th of May, particularly in the middle hills. Looking ahead, the weather outlook suggests rain at isolated places on the 10th and 12th of May, with the possibility of rain or snow in the high hills, providing a much-needed break from the relentless heat.
In the next 2-3 hours, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in certain areas, including Chamba, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan. Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms may occur at one or two places, adding an element of unpredictability to the weather conditions. As residents brace themselves for fluctuating weather patterns, it’s essential to stay informed and prepared for any eventualities.
