Shimla/Dehradun, Aug 5,
A powerful cloudburst on August 5, 2025, devastated Dharali village near Harsil in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand. The extreme weather triggered flash floods and a massive debris slide, sweeping away homes, hotels, and shops in the area.
The disaster struck during ongoing local commercial activity, with more than 20 hotels and homestays damaged or destroyed, reported a top English daily Indian Express. Adding, that the cloudburst occurred without prior evacuation, catching residents and business owners off guard.
Multiple agencies—including the Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local rescue teams—have been dispatched to assist and begin relief operations. SDRF units, based approximately 20 km away, are en route to the disaster zone stated the report.
Local officials fear there may be loss of life, although the exact number of casualties is not yet confirmed. Assessments of both human impact and structural damage are ongoing
