Vigilance probes Rs 13-crore land trail, alleged politician-official links

The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB), Dharamshala, has widened its investigation into alleged manipulation of revenue records involving government/forest land, with the probe now examining land transactions valued at around Rs 13 crore in the names of accused Nek Ram, his wife and mother in the Dharamshala and Palampur areas.
Nek Ram was arrested by the SV&ACB on September 1 in connection with FIR No. 01/2026. The case pertains to allegations of manipulation of revenue records, use of suspicious and allegedly forged documents and signatures, execution of a General Power of Attorney (GPA), and subsequent transfer of land on the basis of such documents.
According to the Vigilance investigation, officials are examining the source of funds, financial transactions and the identity of the actual beneficiaries of properties estimated to be worth approximately Rs 13 crore.
The probe has also brought under scrutiny Nek Ram’s alleged close contacts with revenue officials and his suspected involvement in other land transactions. The Bureau is investigating whether he allegedly acted as a conduit or intermediary for a prominent politician and certain public servants, and whether the transactions point towards a larger nexus.
The role of individuals allegedly connected with the transactions and the identity of the actual beneficiaries are yet to be established and remain part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are also examining documentary and financial linkages, including the circumstances surrounding the missing original revenue records, the Vigilance said.
The Bureau has maintained that the investigation is continuing and further facts may emerge as the probe progresses.

Nek Ram was produced before the competent court on September 2, following which he was granted police remand till September 5. He is scheduled to be produced before the court again on Saturday.
The allegations are subject to investigation and have not been established against the accused at this stage.
