This year, the procurement process is being managed by the State Civil Supplies Corporation across 10 designated centers. According to Senior Account Officer Husn Kashyap, the Riyali market in Kangra has recorded the highest procurement so far, with 197.15 metric tons. Other significant contributions include 80.30 metric tons at the APMC market in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, 28.40 metric tons in Milwan (Kangra), 8.90 metric tons in Dhaula Kuan, and 4.25 metric tons in Rampur market in Una district.
Despite the progress, the number of farmers arriving at procurement centers remains relatively low, primarily due to delayed harvesting. Of the 948 farmers registered so far, only 540 have been issued tokens, and just 38 have completed the sale of their wheat to the government. This season, the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat has been set at ₹2,425 per quintal.
To participate in the procurement, farmers must register on the HPAPPP portal by submitting their crop details. Upon successful registration, they are assigned a token number and date, enabling them to sell their produce at their designated procurement center.
Looking at previous years, wheat procurement in 2023-24 began on April 4 and continued for two months, with 645 farmers selling a total of 2,880.25 metric tons. Notably, this year’s early procurement figures already exceed the total from the previous season by 12.25 metric tons. In comparison, the Food Corporation of India procured 2,931.35 metric tons in 2022-23, marking the highest figure in recent years.
