NHAI offers discounted annual toll passes to residents within 20 km radius
Shimla, Nov 4,
Residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of toll plazas across the country, including Himachal Pradesh, will now be able to avail of discounted annual FASTag passes at significantly reduced rates, providing relief to people who frequently travel through nearby toll points.
Under the revised facility announced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), eligible residents in rural areas will be able to obtain an annual pass for Rs 1,500, while those living within the jurisdiction of municipal areas will have to pay Rs 3,000 for the same facility.
The rural annual pass is being offered at nearly one-third of the existing annual pass price. Eligible residents can also opt for a monthly pass priced at Rs 360, depending on their travel requirements.
The facility will be available to owners of private, non-commercial vehicles equipped with valid and active FASTags, provided they reside within 20 kilometres of the concerned toll plaza. The pass, however, will remain valid only at the respective toll plaza and cannot be used at other toll points.
The scheme is expected to benefit residents in Himachal Pradesh, where six toll plazas are operational. These include Ghatta toll plaza on the Shimla-Mataur corridor (NH-503), Sanwara toll plaza on the Parwanoo-Shimla corridor, and Maura, Baloh, Takoli and Dohlunala toll plazas on the Kiratpur-Manali corridor.

Residents falling within the prescribed 20-kilometre radius of these toll plazas will be eligible to avail themselves of the facility, subject to the applicable conditions.
Nationwide annual FASTag pass also available at Rs 3,075
Separately, NHAI’s existing annual FASTag pass facility for private non-commercial vehicles will continue to remain available at Rs 3,075.
Under this scheme, vehicle owners can make up to 200 trips through toll plazas on National Highways operated by NHAI within one year. This effectively brings the toll cost down to approximately Rs 15 per trip.
According to NHAI, more than one crore vehicle users across the country have already availed themselves of the nationwide annual pass facility.
The two provisions are aimed at making highway travel more affordable and convenient, particularly for local residents who regularly commute through toll plazas. While the discounted local passes are restricted to the respective toll plaza, the Rs 3,075 annual pass provides access across eligible NHAI-operated National Highway toll plazas nationwide.
