Shimla, November 6
An earthquake of magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale jolted Kangra and Chamba districts of Himachal Pradesh early Friday morning, triggering panic among residents who rushed out of their homes.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 6.59 am, with its epicentre located 58 km north-northwest of Dharamshala in Chamba district.
The earthquake originated at a depth of 15 km, at coordinates 32.719° N latitude and 76.123° E longitude.
The tremors were felt in parts of Kangra and Chamba districts, although no reports of loss of life or damage to property were immediately received.
Both districts fall in Seismic Zone-V, the highest earthquake-risk category in India. The Himalayan region remains tectonically active and experiences frequent low-intensity earthquakes due to ongoing movements along geological faults.
