A major water leak from the under-construction Tunnel-2 of the Shong-Tong project in Kinnaur district caused disruption to traffic on the Reckong Peo-Rampur National Highway on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 10 PM, when a substantial amount of water and debris flowed from the tunnel onto the highway, rendering it impassable.
Vehicles on both sides of the highway were left stranded, leading to long traffic jams. Authorities swiftly evacuated personnel from the tunnel and initiated efforts to clear the debris.
The construction firm, Patel Company, is coordinating with local authorities to restore the road.
As a precautionary measure, commuters have been advised to use the alternative route via Karcham-Sheelti.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety measures in place at the under-construction tunnel, prompting calls for a thorough investigation. Local residents have actively participated in the efforts to address the situation.
