Second firing in 24 hours: Shots fired near Shoolini university, Solan

In the second firing incident to shake Himachal Pradesh within 24 hours, panic spread across the Oachghat–Sultanpur Road near Shoolini University on Thursday after a youth opened several rounds in the air following an ongoing dispute between two student groups. The incident took place near the Dream Villa Hotel at Bajhol village under the Sadar Police Station.
According to Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh, the Sadar Police received information that a man had fired shots and escaped. Upon initial verification, officers found that the firing was linked to a confrontation that occurred the previous night. On November 19, a group of senior students from Shoolini University allegedly entered the rented room of first-year BBA student Aditya Kumar from Haryana and verbally abused him.
After the incident, Aditya’s father and family rushed to Solan and filed a complaint with the university management. The management subsequently called both parties for a reconciliation meeting at 2 pm on Thursday at Dream Villa.
However, during the meeting, tensions flared once again. Police said that one of the students involved in the earlier altercation, identified as Dharma, allegedly snatched a licensed pistol belonging to Aditya’s father, Rajballi Shah, and fired multiple rounds into the air. Though no injuries occurred, the sudden gunfire triggered chaos among those present and raised serious concerns about campus safety.
Police acted promptly, arresting the accused Dharma and seizing the pistol used in the incident. The firearm has been sent for forensic examination, and officials are verifying all statements to determine the detailed sequence of events. “Investigation is in progress,” SP Gaurav Singh said.
The incident has caused resentment among students and local villagers, who have demanded increased police patrolling along the university belt to prevent future disturbances.
Coming close on the heels of a fatal shooting in Una the previous night, Thursday’s gunfire has amplified concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Police have assured strict action and enhanced monitoring around educational institutions and sensitive zones.
