Shimla Police have suspended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) after a viral video showed him allegedly using excessive force against a bike-borne youth during the President’s movement in the city.
The incident, which occurred amid heightened security arrangements during President of India visit here. A vedio went viral of this incident triggered public outrage over police conduct.
In an official statement, the District Police Garauv Singh said it had taken serious note of the incident.
“The District Police has been informed of an incident, via a viral video, in which a police officer was seen using excessive and unreasonable force against a person for disobeying traffic orders. Following a ‘zero tolerance’ approach, the concerned ASI has been placed under immediate suspension to ensure a fair probe. Departmental disciplinary proceedings have been initiated,” the statement said.
Reiterating its commitment to professional and humane policing, the department issued a fresh advisory to all personnel. Officers have been directed to exercise restraint, maintain composure during public interactions, and rely on persuasion rather than coercion while enforcing traffic regulations. The advisory stresses adherence to lawful procedures, respectful communication, and avoidance of any physical confrontation unless absolutely warranted under defined legal provisions.
Interestingly, traffic conditions in Shimla deteriorated soon after the departure of President Droupadi Murmu. With the withdrawal of VVIP security and protocol arrangements, enforcement of regulated parking norms weakened, leading to congestion and chaotic scenes across key stretches of the town.
