Duo convicted in Chitta trafficking case by fast track court

In a significant boost to the campaign against drug trafficking in Himachal Pradesh, the Special Fast Track Court at Rohru has convicted two persons in a heroin trafficking case registered nearly four years ago.
The court of the Special Judge, Rohru, pronounced its judgment on May 30, 2026, in FIR No. 122/2022, registered at Police Station Rohru under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The case involved the possession and trafficking of approximately 52.16 grams of heroin, commonly known as chitta.
The court convicted Gagan Bhushan (37), a resident of Bijori village in Rohru tehsil of Shimla district, and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000.
In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
Co-accused Mandeepa (26), a resident of Jubbal tehsil in Shimla district, was also found guilty in the case.
The court sentenced him to one month and 15 days of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional seven days of simple imprisonment.
According to police, the prosecution successfully established the charges through a scientific and systematic investigation, meticulous collection of evidence and effective presentation of the case before the court. The investigation was conducted by then Investigating Officer ASI Rakesh Kumar.

Police officials said the conviction reflects the coordinated efforts of the investigating team and prosecution in securing justice under the NDPS Act.
The Shimla district police reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking and stated that strict action would continue against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade in accordance with the law.
