Large parts of Himachal Pradesh continued to reel under intense heat on Thursday, with Una emerging as the hottest place in the state after recording a scorching maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, which was 5.6 degrees above normal.
The soaring mercury levels have raised concerns over heatwave-like conditions in the lower and mid-hill districts of the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, maximum temperatures across most parts of the state remained above normal.
While Una recorded the highest temperature in Himachal Pradesh, Neri in Hamirpur district registered 38.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Mandi at 37.2 degrees, Kangra at 37 degrees, Sundernagar at 36.8 degrees and Bhuntar at 36 degrees.
The state capital Shimla, however, witnessed relatively pleasant weather with a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, though it remained 2.5 degrees above the seasonal average.
Dharamshala and Solan recorded maximum temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius, while Manali settled at 27.5 degrees and Kalpa at 21.5 degrees Celsius.
The weather office reported that the average maximum temperature across the state remained 1.5 degrees above normal, indicating the persistence of warm conditions.

Despite isolated light rainfall in some areas, including Dharamshala, Kangra, Bhuntar and Kalpa, there was no significant relief from the heat in most regions.
Meteorologists said there was no large change in maximum temperatures during the past 24 hours, but temperatures continued to remain above normal in many parts of the state.
Residents in low-hill districts have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours and stay adequately hydrated as hot weather conditions are likely to persist.
