Shimla, July 11
The Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) and Hospital, Shimla, has advised patients, attendants and visitors to exercise caution and use the alternative lift in Block E as the OTIS lift in Block D will remain out of service on July 11 and 12 due to scheduled maintenance.
IGMC Hospital Senior Medical Superintendent Dr Rahul Rao stated that the main suspension ropes of the OTIS lift are being replaced as a safety measure.
The maintenance work is being carried out by the Public Works Department (Electrical Wing) to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the lift.
During the two-day maintenance period, the Block D lift would remain completely closed. The hospital has made alternative arrangements by keeping the lift in Block E available for patients, attendants, hospital staff and the general public.

The administration appealed to visitors to cooperate with the hospital authorities and follow the designated routes to avoid inconvenience during the maintenance work. It said the temporary closure is necessary to enhance passenger safety and prevent any operational risks.
The advisory comes days after the hospital administration clarified reports relating to the functioning of the D-Block lift and reiterated its commitment to maintaining uninterrupted patient care while improving infrastructure.
IGMC has assured that all essential medical and emergency services will continue to function normally during the maintenance period. The hospital administration expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to patients and attendants and sought their cooperation until the maintenance work is completed.
Hospital authorities said the lift is expected to resume operations after the replacement of the suspension ropes and completion of the necessary safety checks by the concerned technical agencies.
