Shimla, Sept 9
A Shimla-based businessman Abhijeet Lal running multiple showrooms has come under the scanner after a complaint by a bank led to registration of a case at Sadar police station, Shimla, over allegations of obtaining loans by submitting forged documents.
According to the complaint, the businessman allegedly availed a cash-credit facility of Rs one crore and a term loan of another Rs One crore for his firm in February 2023. The bank has alleged that several suppliers were approached for documents to facilitate release of the loan amount. During subsequent verification, however, the bank’s team allegedly found discrepancies in the documents and could not find the goods and property shown as security.
The complaint further alleges that bills relating to clothing supplies worth Rs 20 lakh, Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh were submitted, while verification of the transactions and supply of goods reportedly did not establish the corresponding purchases. The bank has also alleged that around Rs 9.19 lakh deposited into a supplier’s account was subsequently transferred back to the borrower’s account.

The case assumes significance amid allegations that the businessman is facing substantial financial liabilities. Claims of defaults running into several crores, disputes with landlords and dues allegedly payable to employees are also being raised. These allegations, however, would require independent verification and should not be treated as established facts unless proved before a competent authority or court.
The businessman is reportedly operating three showrooms in Shimla, raising questions over how the establishments have continued to function despite the alleged financial liabilities. There are also claims that properties outside Himachal Pradesh have either been pledged against loans or face possible recovery proceedings.
Shimla Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh has assured that the allegations will be examined and the matter investigated in accordance with law.
Sources also point to a pending cheque-bounce matter in which the accused has allegedly been evading summons for over a year. A separate recovery dispute concerning rent is also stated to be pending before the court.
The latest bank complaint could therefore open a wider investigation into the businessman’s financial dealings, including the authenticity of documents submitted to financial institutions and the actual status of his assets and liabilities.
