New Delhi, Oct 16
The parents of Ankita Bhandari, who was murdered in Uttarakhand in 2022, met senior officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at its headquarters in New Delhi on Friday and briefed them on various aspects of the case.
According to a press release issued by the CBI spokesperson, Virendra Singh Bhandari, Ankita’s father, and her mother, Soni Devi, met senior officials and discussed several aspects of the case.
The CBI officials assured the family that the investigation would be fair and impartial and that all aspects of the case would be examined thoroughly.
The meeting comes amid renewed controversy following reports in sections of the media linking a BJP leader, allegedly accused by the victim’s family in connection with the case, to a gubernatorial appointment. However, the identity of the person appointed as Governor, and whether that individual is formally named as an accused in the case, requires independent verification.
Ankita, a 19-year-old receptionist at a resort near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, was murdered in September 2022. Her death triggered widespread public outrage and protests across the country, with demands for a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.
The case has remained politically sensitive in Uttarakhand, which is governed by the BJP. The victim’s family has repeatedly sought accountability and a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and the allegations associated with the case.
The latest meeting at the CBI headquarters assumes importance in this backdrop, as the family has placed its concerns directly before senior investigating officials.
The agency’s assurance that all aspects would be examined would be closely watched by the family and those seeking justice for Ankita.
The CBI’s statement, however, does not specify whether any fresh evidence was submitted during the meeting or whether the agency announced any new investigative steps.
