Sanjeev Gandhi transferred for fifth time in six months, posted MD of GIC
Shimla, Oct 27,
The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has transferred IPS officer Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi for the fifth time in the past six months, assigning him the post of Managing Director of Himachal Pradesh General Industries Corporation Ltd, Shimla.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Personnel on October 24, Gandhi, IPS (HP:2012), who was under orders of posting as Managing Director of the Himachal Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation at Kangra, has now been shifted to the General Industries Corporation with immediate effect. He replaces Bhupender Kumar, HPAS (2009), who has been relieved of the additional charge.
A former Superintendent of Police in Shimla district, Gandhi was first shifted from district policing to the Department of Personnel in February 2026. He was subsequently appointed Managing Director of the Himachal Pradesh Milk Federation (MILKFED), but that posting was cancelled within weeks, and IAS officer Abhishek Verma was assigned the additional charge.
Gandhi was later posted to the Himachal Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation at Kangra. Before his tenure as Shimla SP, he had also served in the Traffic, Tourist and Railways units of the state police.
His latest transfer marks another change in assignment within a short period, taking him from frontline policing to a series of administrative and public sector positions.

Gandhi had attracted attention during his tenure as Shimla SP for action against drug trafficking, particularly the spread of chitta, a locally used term for heroin. His repeated transfers have drawn attention to the government’s handling of an officer who was earlier associated with anti-drug operations in the state capital.
The latest posting has been ordered in public interest and takes immediate effect.
