NH-205 closed near Namhol after road subsidence during four-laning work, traffic diverted

Vehicular traffic on National Highway-205 between Pathankot and Shimla has been suspended near Kharota, close to Namhol in Bilaspur district, following road subsidence during four-laning construction work.

The closure would remain in force until repair work is completed, the Bilaspur police said in a public advisory issued on Tuesday.

The police have advised commuters to use designated alternative routes to ensure smooth and safe movement of vehicles.

The affected stretch is an important link for traffic travelling between Shimla, Bilaspur and Hamirpur, and the diversion is likely to cause inconvenience to commuters.

According to the advisory issued by the Superintendent of Police, Bilaspur, vehicles travelling towards Shimla from Bilaspur and Hamirpur have been directed to take the route via Brahmpukhar, Jukhala, Jabli Bridge, Ranikotla, Kharsi and Darlaghat before proceeding to Shimla.

Vehicles travelling from Shimla towards Mandi have been advised to use the route via Darlaghat, Navgaon, Kharsi, Ranikotla and Bairi before reaching Mandi.

Similarly, vehicles travelling from Shimla towards Bilaspur and Hamirpur should take the route via Darlaghat, Kharsi, Ranikotla, Jabli Bridge and Ghasar/Brahmpukhar before proceeding to their destinations.

The police have urged motorists to follow the prescribed diversions and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed along the alternative routes. Commuters have also been advised to avoid unnecessary overtaking, maintain discipline on the roads and give priority to emergency vehicles.

The advisory comes amid ongoing infrastructure construction on the highway, where road stability has emerged as a concern during the execution of four-laning work. The police have not specified a timeline for reopening the affected stretch.
