Shimla, Jan 9
The Aquatic Migratory Bird-Flu count mounted to 4020 at Pong Dam Wildlife Sanctuary in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday as special operations to recover the Bird in the dam along the bank of manmade lake countinues.
Principal Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) and Chief Wild life Warden Dr Archana Sharma said that total number of cumalative bird count counting at WLS has increased to 4020 till this afternoon.
She said that mortality figure of today Include two hundred mortality of previous day which have taken place in an inaccessible marshy area of the sanctuary and retrieved today with great difficulty.
State Chief of wildlife informed that on Jan 9 the total count of Migratory bird found dead of various species in the sanctuary area increased to 318 till today.
The control and containment measure to deal with avian influenza outbreak of Pong Dam WLS are being taken, she said.
The Protection Rescue Team(PRTs) deployed in affected areas are working proactively for collection and disposal of dead birds along the international Ramsar site.
More over active surveillance of Avian Influenza is being done WLS area by the PRTs.Â
The Divisional Forest Officer Hamirpur is on the spot and supervising the the Operation. The daily data regarding the outbreak.Â
Daily data regarding outbreak is being reported to District Emergency Operation Center (DEOC) set up by Himachal Pradesh Disaster management Authority .
A control room is being set up at Nagrota Suriyan to receive and disseminate information about the outbreak.
On Jan 5. 2021 various national virology labs and birds and animals testing centers confirmed that Migratory birds died due to an outbreak of avian influenza, a type of bird flu caused by the H5N1 strain of Influenza.
Animal husbandry department are trying to contain the virus from spreading to domesticated birds, or further to humans, and have been randomly testing poultry samples from areas around the Pong lake.Â
