Tapovan (Dharamshala), Dec 11
Himachal Pradesh will have a seventh government owned University shortly as the state government on Saturday brought legislation to set up another state university at Mandi of Himachal Pradesh.
Introducing legislation to amend the Himachal Pradesh Universities Act, 1970, the Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur said that presently the jurisdiction of this university was over the entire state. In the last five decades, many government colleges, as well as private colleges, have been opened in the state.
In order to increase the access of students to higher education and to improve the quality of education, it has been decided to establish another University namely Sardar Patel University, Mandi (Himachal Pradesh). With the establishment of a new university, there would be effective control over the affiliated colleges of the region and it would also help in supervision.
The aforesaid Act is required to be amended with a view to bring the territory of the State under the jurisdiction of the two Universities and to remove any dispute of jurisdiction he added.
