Accidental fire during HAS officers’ training results in helper’s injury
Shimla, May 24
A routine training session for HAS (Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services) Officers took a dangerous turn today when an accidental fire, resulted in the injury of a helper. The incident occurred during a two-day training program focused on “Rifle/Revolver Training” at the Battalion Headquarters.
A spokesperson of HP Police informed that yesterday, on May 23, the training session began with officers being introduced to the weapons and receiving comprehensive instruction on proper handling techniques. Today, as the training continued on May 24, the trainee officers were being trained in target shooting with rifles and revolvers. Initially, the long-range weapon (SLR) firing phase proceeded successfully. However, tragedy struck during the pistol shooting phase when an unintended incident of fire occurred, injuring a helper assigned to one of the four firer officers.
Immediate action was taken, and the injured helper was swiftly transported to IGMC Shimla for treatment. The medical team at the hospital has reported that the injured individual is currently in stable condition and is receiving appropriate care, ensuring their safety.
Upon being informed of the incident, the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, took immediate cognizance and appointed Prem Kumar Thakur, IPS, IGP-AP&T, as the designated inquiry officer. Thakur’s responsibility is to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and submit a comprehensive report on the incident.
