Aerial thrills: Narvana’s Paragliding Pre-World cup takes off with Dharamshala MLA’s green flag

The tranquil town of Narvana, nestled near Dharamshala, witnessed a dazzling inauguration of the Paragliding Accuracy Pre-World Cup on Monday. The event, graced by the presence of Dharamshala MLA Sudhir Sharma, marked the beginning of a thrilling competition set against the picturesque backdrop of the Kangra district.
In a ceremony filled with ceremonial significance, Sudhir Sharma lit the traditional lamp and participated in a havan at the Paragliding Take-off Site, setting a spiritual tone for the competition. The official start was signaled with a green flag waved by the MLA, inaugurating a five-day event that promises excitement and skillful displays of paragliding prowess.
Approximately 90 participants, including courageous soldiers from the Indian Army, took part in trial flights on the inaugural day, providing a glimpse of the aerial spectacle that is anticipated over the coming days.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Sharma highlighted the significance of hosting an international-level paragliding competition in the vicinity of Dharamshala, the headquarters of Kangra district. He emphasized the positive impact on tourism and the potential for job creation, particularly for the local youth. The MLA also commended the safety measures in place at the site, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for participants and spectators alike.
This event holds additional significance for Dharamshala, a town already gaining international recognition through its association with spiritual leader Dalai Lama and recent cricket matches. Acknowledging the efforts of the Narvana Adventure Club, the organizing body behind the competition, Sharma extended congratulations to all office bearers, including Club President Kapil Sharma.
Later, Sharma the chief guest, seized the opportunity for an exhilarating solo and tandem paragliding experience with pilot Arvind Pal.
As the competition unfolds over the next few days, the eyes of both locals and international enthusiasts will be on Narvana, as the Paragliding Accuracy Pre-World Cup promises not only a display of skill and courage but also cements Dharamshala’s status as a hub for diverse and thrilling events on the global stage.
