Shimla, Dec 17,
Mandi Police have registered a case of cheating against the former driver of a former Himachal Pradesh minister in connection with an alleged fraud amounting to Rs 1.95 lakh.
Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Sakshi Verma, informed on Tuesday that the case has been registered at Sadar Police Station and investigation has been initiated.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Vinay Kumar (34), a resident of Old Mandi, who runs an agricultural implements shop named M/s Bhimakali Traders. In his complaint, Vinay Kumar alleged that Manoj Thakur, who earlier worked as a driver for former minister and former Pradesh Congress Committee president Kaul Singh Thakur, cheated him by purchasing agricultural equipment and failing to make the payment.
The complainant stated that around five months ago, Manoj Thakur purchased a total of five power tillers from his shop at different intervals. Vinay Kumar said that he did not know the accused personally by name, but identified and trusted him due to his association with the former minister.
As per the complaint, the accused allegedly assured the shopkeeper on each occasion that the power tillers were being purchased in the name of Kaul Singh Thakur and that the payment would be made once the former minister returned, as he was said to be out of station at the time. However, despite repeated assurances, the total payment of Rs 1.95 lakh has not been cleared so far.
SP Sakshi Verma said that on the basis of the complaint, a case under relevant sections of cheating has been registered and further investigation is underway. “All facts and evidence would be examined during the investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken,” she said.
Police clarified that no allegation has been made against the former minister in the complaint, and the case pertains solely to the alleged actions of his former driver.
