The queen of hills Shimla which is facing a acute dearth of snowfall this winter season, got relieved with a thundershower making the roofs of the core city, go white. The roofs and roads were covered by about half inch thick sheet of sleet, which showered down in two hours also plummeting the mercury drastically.
It was overcast since yesterday, but this afternoon a thundershower and light sleet caused the inclement weather. The light sleet covered the roofs and roads but normal traffic and public movement was not affected.
A police officer said that tourist place Kufri is still open for vehicular traffic as no no snowfall recorded so far. Though incidents of cars skidding can be seen on roads.
Noteworthy, that the the minimum and maximum temperature went up all time high in the town on February 18 in the state.
Report arriving here said that district administration Lahaul Spiti stopped vehicular traffic in the district due to heavy snowfall till further orders. Advisory also sounded by the administration that keep n view the heavy snowfall
At Dhundi north portal of ATR and Sissu, movement of all type of vehicles on this route be restricted till further orders except four by four vehicle in emergency cases. BRO shall clear the road before allowing the traffic on it.
The local people are advised to avoid the travel in order to avoid unpleasant incidents. The Met office said that rain and thundershowers lashed Shimla town, Jubberhati, Kufri, Vakanaghat, Bangana in Una, Nadaun and Anu in Hamirpur, Dhenta, Janjeyli and Thunag, Dharmshala and adjoining areas.
Dark clouds are still hovering over the sky and high altitude areas of Chamba, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnnuar expressing light snowfall. In Last 24 hrs Koksar in Lahual Spiti 17 cm snow, Gondla 12 cm, Kukamseri nine cm, Keylong six cm.
Bharmoour and Kothi got five mm rain and Manali and Saloni had one mm rain.
In the next 24 hrs the met office predicted mainly dry weather and fresh western disturbances likely affect the state from Feb 25 onwards.
Minimum temperature of Shimla was recorded 8.4 degrees, Bhuntar Airport in Kullu 9.6 , Kalpa ,(Kinnaur) 3, Dharamshala(Kangra) 6.2, Una 12.7 , Nahan (Sirmaur) 16, Keylong minus 1.2, Solan 8.4, Manali 1.8, Kangra 13.8, Mandi 9.6, Bilaspur 12, Hamirpur 11.4, Chamba 10.4, Dalhousie 8.3, Jubberhatti Airport 13, Kufri 7.8 and Narakanda 6.2.
