Another body recovered from Summerhill, Shiv Baudi in Shimla
Shimla, Aug 24
In a sombre development, the debris of the Shiv Mandir in Summerhill’s Shiv baudi area continues to reveal its grim toll, as the recovery teams discovered yet another body. The deceased has been identified as Neeraj son of Shanti Swaroop, residing at Shanti Niwas Anddi Summerhill.
This brings the total count of bodies retrieved from the disaster site to eighteen. The tragic incident unfolded on August 14 when a landslide wreaked havoc on the iconic Shiv temple, situated in the heart of Summerhill. The disaster, which occurred around 7 AM, claimed the lives of approximately 20-21 individuals, devotees who had gathered for prayers. The massive landslide occurred on the Andadi road near Totu-Shimla Railway line and hit the ill fated temple.
The ill-fated day held significance as it was a Monday, traditionally considered auspicious for worship. The calamity struck while many were engaged in preparing ‘Prasad’, adding to the distress. In an unfortunate parallel event, another landslide in the Fagli area of Shimla had resulted in the loss of five lives on the same day.
