Bollywood actor and entrepreneur belonging to Himachal Pradesh, Preity Zinta has strongly refuted allegations made by the Kerala Congress regarding a supposed ₹18 crore loan waiver in exchange for handing over her social media accounts to the BJP. The controversy stems from the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) decision to dissolve the New India Cooperative Bank’s board on February 15 amid reports of financial irregularities. Following this, the Kerala Congress’s official X handle posted a news article on Monday alleging that Zinta’s social media platforms were used for political propaganda in return for a massive loan write-off.
A furious Zinta took to X to clarify her stance, stating, “No, I operate my social media accounts myself, and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. For the record, a loan was taken and fully paid back over 10 years ago.”
Faced with backlash, the Kerala Congress later backtracked, claiming that it was merely “sharing media reports” and acknowledged the possibility of misinformation, stating, “If the reports are wrong, we request you to clear the air with proof once and for all.”
Preity Zinta, educated in Shimla, has often been recognized for her successful Bollywood career spanning over two decades. Recently, she shared video posts of herself in the apple orchards of her home in Shimla district, offering a glimpse into her personal life beyond cinema.
While her public statements have rarely focused on regional identity, media speculations often compare her stance with that of Kangana Ranaut, another Bollywood actress from Himachal Pradesh. Unlike Zinta, Ranaut has openly expressed her Himachali pride and went on to become a Member of Parliament in the 2024 parliamentary elections. However, such comparisons largely remain part of media narratives rather than official statements from either actress.
