Shimla, Oct 5,
The 13th Khushwant Singh Literature Festival is set to take place in Kasauli, India, from October 18-20, 2024. With the theme “Resilience and Renewal,” the festival will feature a diverse group of speakers, including India’s G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, and politician Manish Tiwari.
The festival will explore a wide range of topics, with a focus on literary works such as Anant Krishnan’s The Comrades and the Mullahs and Probal Dasgupta’s Camouflaged: Forgotten Stories from Battlefields. Attendees will include Mumbai podcaster Amit Verma, author Devdutt Patnaik, poet Arundhati Subramaniam, journalist Bachi Karkaria, and military veteran General Ian Cardozo.
Other notable panelists include nuclear physicist Dr. Kalpana Shankar, art historian William Dalrymple, and Supreme Court lawyer Saurabh Kirpal. They will discuss topics ranging from culture, literature, and politics to contemporary issues like resilience, trauma, and art’s role in society.
The festival was initiated by Khushwant Singh’s son, Rahul Singh, to honor his father’s immense contribution to Indian literature. Singh, best known for his novels such as Train to Pakistan and his satirical writings, had a deep love for Kasauli. The Litfest continues to be a tribute to Singh’s literary legacy and his connection to the tranquil hills of Kasauli.
