Chamba: Three die in SUV accident
Shimla, Sept 8
A tragic incident occurred on Thursday when a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), Bolero veered off the Mani-Sirkund road, located 18 kilometres from the district headquarters, as confirmed by the district administration.
An SUV, carrying eleven people, including five women and five children, tragically went off the road, resulting in the loss of three lives. Local villagers promptly initiated a rescue operation, while emergency response teams, comprising police and home guard personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene.
The injured victims were promptly transported to Chamba Medical College via the 108 National Ambulance Service.
The three individuals who tragically lost their lives have been identified as Sanvi, Mimi Devi, and Veena Devi. They were all residents of Rajpura village, as reported by Chamba Superintendent of Police, Abhishek Yadav.
These victims, who were all relatives, were returning home after paying their respects at Dwat Mahadev Mandir in Mani village.
One severely injured victim was referred to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda. The police have registered a case, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident near Jhulada village in Chamba district, which claimed the lives of two women and a child. My thoughts and prayers are with their grieving families during this difficult time.”
The district administration has provided Rs. 25,000 in compensation to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 5,000 to the injured individuals. Additionally, a seriously injured person has received immediate relief of Rs. 10,000.
