Collegium recommends Ranjan Sharma, BC Negi, and Rakesh Kainthla as Judges of HP High Court

The Collegium of the Supreme Court has recommended the names of advocate Ranjan Sharma, Bipin Chander Negi, and judicial officer Rakesh Kainthla for appointment as Judges of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. The recommendation was made on July 12 and conveyed through a notification.
The Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, approved the names based on the recommendation received from the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Himachal Pradesh on December 5, 2022.
The notification mentioned that the recommendations were made after consultation with judges of the Supreme Court who are familiar with the affairs of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. Before giving assent to the recommended individuals, the Collegium thoroughly examined the material on record and reviewed the observations made by the Department of Justice.
Advocate Ranjan Sharma, who was enrolled as an Advocate on December 11, 1991, and designated as a Senior Advocate on March 29, 2019, has a substantial practice at the Bar. He currently serves as an Additional Advocate General and has a commendable professional income.
Advocate Bipin Chander Negi has been practicing at the Bar for the past 28 years since his enrollment in 1994. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2015 and has been appointed as an amicus curiae by the High Court in various matters. He possesses knowledge of diverse branches of law and has appeared before the High Court and district courts. If appointed, he would serve tenure of over seven years.
Judicial Officer Rakesh Kainthla joined the judicial service on August 7, 1995, and has served in various capacities within the State. The final official warrant for their appointment will be issued by the President of India in consultation with the Government.
