Shimla, June 14
State Congress General Secretary Vinod Zinta on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the Central Government, accusing them of showing insensitivity towards Indian citizens who lost their lives in the recent incident involving a commercial vessel near the Gulf of Oman.
Addressing the media, Zinta alleged that senior BJP leaders had failed to express condolences over the deaths of Indian citizens in the incident. He particularly criticized Union Health Minister and BJP National President J.P. Nadda for not commenting on the death of a youth from Hamirpur district during his recent visit to Shimla.
Zinta said that despite being asked by journalists about the death of the Himachali youth, Nadda chose not to respond and stated that he would address the matter separately.
He termed the silence “unfortunate and shameful,” alleging that it reflected the BJP leadership’s lack of concern for the suffering of ordinary people.
According to Zinta, a grieving family in Himachal Pradesh deserved sympathy and support from leaders, especially from someone holding a senior position in the Union Government. She claimed that the BJP was more focused on political programmes and publicity than on sharing the pain of affected families.
Taking a swipe at Nadda, Zinta remarked that his silence appeared to suggest greater concern for international considerations than for the suffering of people in his home state. He said that the people of Himachal Pradesh were justified in questioning the priorities of BJP leaders when they failed to offer even basic condolences to the bereaved family.

Zinta further stated that protecting the safety, dignity and interests of citizens was the responsibility of the government. She accused the BJP leadership of neglecting this responsibility and urged leaders to show greater compassion and sensitivity towards families affected by such tragedies.
