The Himachal Pradesh Cyber Crime Cell has reported approximately 12,000 cases of online fraud, with victims losing a staggering Rs 114 crore. The agency has successfully recovered Rs 15 crore for the affected individuals. For its exemplary efforts, the Cyber Crime Cell was honored with the prestigious Skoch Award 2024.
The CY Station Data Centre, operating under the Cyber Crime Cell, has been at the forefront of addressing cyber fraud. The centre, which functions 24/7, received 1,10,794 calls related to cybercrime in 2024 alone. Of these, 19% were from women, and 2% were from children. The Customer Service Support Centre (CSSC) team maintained a 100% response rate, ensuring all complaints were promptly uploaded to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) for immediate action.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Cyber Crime, Mohit Chawla, highlighted the centre’s efficient coordination with banks and real-time integration with the NCRP portal, which enabled the recovery of Rs 15 crore out of the total Rs 114 crore lost by victims. The centre, staffed by 21 personnel, including 9 women, has been praised as a “game changer” in combating cybercrime.
The CY Station Data Centre operates through eight specialized verticals, including the Bank Coordination Centre (BCC) and the Cyber Training & Research Centre (CTRC), which provide technical support and training to mitigate cyber threats. The centre’s efforts have earned it the Skoch Award, one of India’s highest civilian honors, recognizing its contribution to socio-economic change through cybercrime prevention.
Director General of Police (DGP), State CID Himachal Pradesh, SR Ojha, congratulated the CY Station team for their achievements and encouraged them to continue their vital work in safeguarding citizens from cyber fraud.
