Shimla, Sep 16
A defamation case filed against former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal was withdrawn by the complainant as the matter was pending before a single bench of Himachal Pradesh High court. Former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh had filed a criminal defamation case against Prem Kumar Dhumal, Arun Dhumal and Anurag Thakur in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Shimla.
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh, who had been accused of favouring a private firm, had filed this matter against BJP leaders Arun Jaitley and Prem Kumar Dhumal. Singh had also named Dhumal’s son Anurag Thakur in the case that accuses these leaders of dragging his name.
However, Dhumal had moved to Himachal Pradesh High court claiming that defamation case has already been withdrawn against Former Union Finance Minister (late) Arun Jaitley but complainant decided to continue this case against him.
It is worth mentioning that Prem Kumar Dhumal and others had challenged the summon orders issued by the lower court in this criminal defamation case filed against them before the High Court. Now this matter was pending before the single bench of court of Justice Vivek Singh Thakur.
Late Virbhadra Singh had filed the criminal defamation case against Prem Kumar Dhumal and Arun Jaitley, but on 27 May 2014, he withdrew the case only against Arun Jaitley. Thereafter CJM Shimla summoned the defendants on 26.9.2014 on behalf of Virbhadra Singh after recording the preliminary statements of the witnesses in the case.
Singh recently passed away after prolonged illnesses at Shimla and his Son Vikramditya Singh has filled the an affidavit before the high court that complaint has been withdrawn before the CJM court.
