Shimla, July 19
In a heartening initiative aimed at strengthening ties between students from different social backgrounds, Delhi Public School (DPS) Shimla extended support to the students of Government Primary School, Jharech, by providing rain protection kits and educational material, sending out a message of compassion, equality and shared responsibility.
The outreach programme assumed added significance in the backdrop of the ongoing monsoon season, when children studying in remote government schools often face greater hardships in reaching classrooms due to heavy rain and inadequate protective gear. Young students from economically weaker families are among those who suffer the most during the rainy season, making such initiatives both timely and meaningful.

Acting on a commitment made during an earlier visit in June, the DPS Shimla team, under the guidance of Headmistress Veena Chauhan and with the support of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), visited the government school on Thursday and handed over raincoats, gumboots, notebooks, charts and other classroom essentials collected through contributions from parents and staff members.
The visiting team included PTA member Tamanna Aggarwal, teachers and ten students from Classes II to VI. Rather than limiting the visit to the distribution of supplies, the students interacted with their counterparts through conversations, storytelling and poetry recitations, creating an atmosphere of friendship and mutual respect.
The interaction allowed children from both schools to learn from one another, breaking social barriers and demonstrating that meaningful friendships are built through shared experiences rather than economic backgrounds. The confidence, enthusiasm and talent displayed by the students of Government Primary School, Jharech, left a lasting impression on the visiting children.
The initiative also conveyed a broader social message. At a time when educational institutions often reflect economic divides, such gestures help foster camaraderie between students of private and government schools and encourage a culture of empathy instead of social distance. The experience offers an important lesson for other educational institutions that community engagement and shared learning can play a significant role in reducing social inequalities.
School authorities said the programme was part of DPS Shimla’s continued commitment to holistic education, where students are encouraged to develop values of kindness, inclusivity and service alongside academic excellence. They also thanked parents, staff members and supporters whose contributions made the outreach programme possible.
The initiative demonstrated that acts of care, encouragement and human connection can have a far greater impact than material assistance alone, while inspiring young minds to build a more inclusive and compassionate society.
