Shimla/Kangra, May 10,
In a startling development, remnants suspected to be from Pakistani drones and missiles were discovered in Himachal Pradesh’s Una and Kangra districts, following intense drone activity along India’s western border on the night of May 9.
Although Himachal Pradesh witnessed no direct attacks or damage, the recovery of debris in border villages has prompted local authorities to heighten surveillance and alertness in the region.
Reports suggest that the Indian Army intercepted multiple drones attempting to infiltrate Indian airspace across 26 targeted locations spanning Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. As a consequence of these aerial interceptions, fragments of missiles and drones were found in Himachal’s Una and Kangra districts, both of which share borders with Punjab.
Around 1:30 AM, villagers in Vehra (Bhated Panchayat, Amb subdivision) and Pirthipur (Gagret subdivision) of Una district reported hearing loud explosions. The next morning, they discovered metallic debris scattered across nearby fields. “We heard a loud noise overhead, followed by something crashing down. It felt like an explosion in the sky,” said Sarbjit, a resident of Vehra village, whose house is located just 25 meters from where the fragments landed.
Una Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal confirmed the presence of suspected missile parts and reassured the public, urging them to report any unusual objects to authorities. “We’ve alerted senior officials, and an investigation is underway,” he stated.
In Kangra district, missile fragments were located at three separate sites within the Jawali subdivision around 5:00 AM. Additionally, drone debris was recovered from Majra village, close to the Pathankot Air Base and falling under Damtal police jurisdiction. Police, Army, and paramilitary personnel swiftly reached the scene and cordoned off the area.
Superintendent of Police, Nurpur, Ashok Ratan, confirmed that experts had been summoned to analyze the wreckage and verify its origin, adding that all safety measures were being followed.
While no injuries or property damage were reported, the incident underlines the increasing risks faced by border regions in Himachal due to escalations along the Indo-Pak border. It also raises concerns about the potential spillover of future cross-border conflicts into typically peaceful zones.
