
Shimla/Bhoranj/Mandi, May 5
At least five people were killed and several others injured in two separate road accidents reported in Hamirpur and Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh in last 24 hours.
In Hamirpur district’s Bhoranj area, a report just received said that a tragic accident occurred near Garli-Dhabdiyana when a Santro car (HP 22D 3596) skidded off the road and plunged nearly 250 feet into a deep ditch.
The vehicle was carrying four members of a family on their way to attend a social function.Two occupants — Ramesh Chand Dhiman (74) and his wife Santosh Kumari (66), residents of Dalalard village — lost their lives in the mishap.
While Dhiman died on the spot, Santosh Kumari succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. The injured, identified as driver Prithi Chand and his wife Saroj Kumari, were initially given first aid and later referred to Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur.
Their condition has reportedly improved and they have been shifted to the general ward. Local residents, along with police and rescue teams, carried out the relief operation. After completing legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to the bereaved family.
State OBC Commission member visited the hospital, met the injured and expressed condolences to the grieving family, terming the incident “deeply heartbreaking.”
