Shimla, May 7
The recently declared class 10th results by the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board (HPSEB) Dharamshala have unveiled a noteworthy trend – girls have once again surpassed boys in academic excellence. Despite a slight dip in the overall pass percentage compared to the previous year, the dominance of female students at the top is undeniable.
Ridhima Sharma, a student of Government School, Nadon, Hamirpur district, emerged as the state topper with an exceptional score of 699 out of 700, securing a staggering 99.86 percent. Following closely behind is Kritika Sharma from Newgal School Bhawarna, Kangra district, with an impressive 698 marks, achieving a remarkable 99.71 percent.
Notably, three students—Shivam Sharma, Dhriti Tecta, and Rushil Sood—claimed the third position jointly, each scoring 697 marks, attaining a commendable 99.57 percent.
Despite the commendable performance of these top achievers, the overall pass percentage witnessed a decline, standing at 74.61 percent, compared to the previous year’s 89.7 percent. Out of 91,130 students who appeared for the examination, 67,988 successfully passed, while 10,474 students are facing compartmental exams. Additionally, 12,613 students unfortunately failed to meet the required standards.
One striking revelation from the results is the continued dominance of girls in academic performance. Among the top 92 students, a staggering 72 are female. Moreover, while government schools have seen an increased participation of 69,397 students compared to 21,733 students from private schools, the latter continues to dominate the top ranks, with 70 out of the top 92 students hailing from private institutions.
This year’s examination, conducted from March 2 to March 21 across 2,258 examination centers, witnessed a record-fast result declaration, just 15 days after the conclusion of exams.
The disparity in performance between government and private schools highlights the need for further examination of educational policies and resources allocation to ensure equal opportunities for all students regardless of their school affiliations.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and other factors, the remarkable achievements of these students, particularly the girls, serve as a testament to their dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
