Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh informed that a police team from Sadar Police Station, deployed in the city for crime prevention and patrolling, received intelligence inputs about two individuals moving from the KFC area toward Dohari Diwar. One of the suspects was reportedly in police uniform. The two, identified as Pradeep Kumar (40), son of Mange Ram, and Mohit (21), son of Sushil Kumar, both residents of Kalayat in Haryana’s Kaithal district, were allegedly trying to sell heroin to local youth.
Acting swiftly, the police apprehended the duo and recovered 157 grams of chitta (heroin) from their possession. Both were produced in court and remanded to five days in police custody.
Further investigation revealed that Pradeep Kumar is currently employed as a head constable in Haryana Police and was posted at Siwan Police Station in Kaithal district. He had reportedly been absent from duty since April 1. The SP added that Kumar has allegedly been involved in heroin smuggling for a considerable period and used to supply the drug mainly in the Shimla district. To avoid suspicion during such operations, he would wear his police uniform.
The two had initially traveled to Narkanda in Shimla district to sell heroin, but due to high pricing issues, the deal did not go through. They then came to Solan to find new buyers. The previous criminal records of both the accused are being verified. A case has been registered under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
