Shimla, May 15
The scorching heatwave in Himachal Pradesh might ease up in the next 48 hours as the IMD predicts possible rain and thunderstorms. The forecast, valid for this weekend, indicates inclement weather for the mid and high reaches of Himachal Pradesh, likely due to the activity of a western disturbance (WD).
While the plains and low altitude areas are expected to remain clear until May 21, there’s a chance of rain or light snowfall in many parts of the mountains from May 17 to 21, along with possible thunderstorms. Pleasant weather in Shimla and other tourist spots like Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, and Dalhousie is drawing tourists seeking relief from the plains’ heatwave.
Maximum temperatures have soared, reaching 40 degrees in Neri and 39 in Una, with temperatures remaining above 35 degrees in ten stations on Tuesday. Minimum temperatures on Wednesday ranged from 3.9 degrees in Keylong to 24.0 degrees in Poanta Sahib, with Shimla at 16 degrees and other areas experiencing varying temperatures.
