Heavy rain or snow orange alert by IMD: Distt Admin

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Himachal Pradesh, forecasting heavy rain and snowfall in select areas for the next 24 hours. Lahaul Spiti district administration and police have also issued a weather alert today.
The higher altitudes have experienced light to moderate snowfall since October 10, with a significant spell of snowfall today. This has led to the restriction of traffic on the Manali-Leh National Highway due to fresh snowfall on Monday.
A Facebook post by Lahaul Spiti police has advised both tourists and locals to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
The IMD’s weather advisory extends the Orange warning for heavy rain and snow in parts of Himachal Pradesh until October 17. The administration has urged people not to venture into high-altitude areas and to refrain from unnecessary travel.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Keylong has issued a separate warning and has instructed Lahaul Spiti Police to remain on high alert to assist stranded individuals.
According to the Met Office, normal life in the state has been disrupted due to moderate to heavy rain and snowfall in various locations. Daytime temperatures have dropped significantly, causing markets and public places to remain deserted.
In Chamba district, the tourist resort of Dalhousie received 72 mm of rain by 1630 hrs on Monday, while Bhattiyat had 36 mm, Shimla 27 mm, Chamba 25 mm, Chopal 23 mm, Solan 21 mm, Dharmshala and Rohru 20 mm each. Tourist resorts received 19 mm of rain, while Manali and Narkanda received 12 mm, and Khadrala recorded ten mm. The Hatu peak witnessed snowfall. Also flakes were recorded at Rakcham in Kinnaur.
The minimum temperature in Keylong was one degree, while the maximum temperature in Una was 27 degrees, several degrees below the normal range.
